Little Germany In Ipswitch QLD ?

Heisenberg Haus – Ipswich

To start guys, I will be honest this restaurant is co-owned by a friend of mine Steven Fechner and I for many years have put off visiting mainly as I am never in Ipswich, however recently in 2016 I happened to be visiting Brisbane and had a free night so i thought I might finally take him up on his offer and come visit and was i impressed.

The building granted isn't much to look at from the outside, but inside is bursting with character, for those expecting to see the Gothic wooden styles for which you would see when visiting some of the beer halls in Germany you will be disappointed, however where it counts this place has everything a good night out with friends is looking for, the food is spectacular The chef "Marcel " (See Photo below) does a great job and the beer, well it’s as close to Germany as you’re going to get In Queensland.

I ordered the wurst taster to start, this is a selection of three of your classic sausages and pretty much explains itself all were delicious, however the main course was spectacular "The infamous pork Knuckle". For those of you who have travelled to Germany and experienced one of these bad boys the one thing you always hear, it was delicious but I couldn’t finish it, well here is no different the minute this massive knuckle was placed in front of me my mouth was watering and as soon as I started to devour it I was instantly taken back to Berlin in 2014 to where I tired my very first pork knuckle. It was cooked perfectly crackled completely on the outside with delicious juicy pork on the inside, topped off with some gravy sauerkraut and a dumpling my pants felt like the button was going to do the hop glop and fly across the room.

Needless to say there was no room left for desert, I did however devour a very tasty shot of snaps for which the selection available was impressive (even chili schnapps) if that’s your game.

In closing if you live in inner city Brisbane you are more likely to visit the Bavarian Bier Cafe on eagle street pier to get your German fix as it also is truly a great night out, but should you find yourself in or around Ipswich and craving a great dining experience phone in a reservation to Heisenberg Haus you won’t be disappointed, keep in mind you will need to book as table as this place gets busy and if you’re intending of getting the pork knuckle it is essential to phone ahead.
